When you are in San Felipe, BC, street dogs probably aren’t the first thing that comes to mind. Most people that come to Baja either live down here full time, part-time or just vacation.  Baja is the land of the free – the untouched and filled with raw beauty.  However, as you start to un-peel the layers, like any country, it has its problems.

The country of Mexico has the largest number of street dogs in Latin America. The National Institute of Statistics and Geography estimates that there are about 70% of 18 million dogs in Mexico that live on the street. In Tijuana alone, it is estimated that there are over 300,000 street dogs. It is hard to know exactly how many street dogs are represented in each of the eight (8) districts in Baja which includes San Felipe but many of these statistics represent dogs being born as strays or plainly abandoned.

It’s a scene we are all too familiar with in San Felipe.

Tourists and locals are also critical to street dogs of San Felipe. Not only can you adopt, if you have time to spare on your vacation, contact us and ask if there are any dogs that need to be walked. We are always thrilled to have volunteers take dogs for a walk, which not only gets them out for exercise, but it also helps socialize them and introduces them to potential adopters.

This is what we do – We are San Felipe Dog Rescue!

About Us

The San Felipe Dog Rescue is essential to addressing the street dog issue in San Felipe. We are run by dedicated employees, volunteers, and rely on public donations. Much like many other animal rescues, we are always beyond capacity and short on funds.

What we do

In addition to taking in and providing medical care to our dogs in need, San Felipe Dog Rescue facilitates foster placements, support community education initiatives, and work hard to find adoptive families for the dogs.  Some remain down in San Felipe, but many go to their furever homes all over the United States and Canada.
