Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.

Uncovering the Hidden Side of San Felipe: The Street Dogs

The vast majority of people who come to San Felipe either live in the area full time, part-time, or are here just for vacation. San Felipe is known for its freedom—its untouched and raw beauty. However, as you start to un-peel the layers, like any area, it has its problems.

Mexico's Stray Dog Crisis: Our Local Concern

The country of Mexico has the largest number of street dogs in Latin America. The National Institute of Statistics and Geography estimates that about 70% of 18 million dogs in Mexico live on the street. While it is hard to know exactly how many street dogs are specifically represented in San Felipe, we are all too familiar with the scene of strays and abandoned pets in our community.

How to Help with This Crisis!

Tourists and locals are critical to the well-being of the street dogs of San Felipe.

  • Adopt: Open your home to a dog whose world needs changing.
  • Volunteer: If you have time to spare on your vacation, contact us! We are always thrilled to have volunteers take dogs for a walk. This not only provides exercise but also helps socialize them and introduces them to potential adopters.
  • Donate: Your financial support provides vital medical care, food, and shelter necessary to prepare these dogs for their forever homes.

“Be the person your dog thinks you are.”

About Us

San Felipe Dog Rescue is essential to addressing the welfare of street dogs in our community. We are a non-profit organization powered by dedicated staff, a widespread network of volunteers, and crucial private donations. Operating consistently beyond capacity and with limited funding, your support is vital to our mission.

What We Do

We are committed to the comprehensive care and placement of dogs in need. Our work includes:

  • Medical Care & Intake: Providing immediate medical treatment and safe shelter for rescued dogs.
  • Fostering & Rehabilitation: Facilitating foster placements and supporting community education initiatives to aid rehabilitation.
  • Adoption: Working diligently to find forever homes for our dogs.
  • Global Placement: While some dogs remain in San Felipe, many travel to their permanent homes across the United States and Canada.

Ways to Change a Life

San Felipe Dog Rescue is funded entirely by private donations, making your support vital to our ability to create lasting change in these animals’ lives. Every contribution helps us save dogs from suffering and provide the necessary treatment, care, and love they deserve.

We are grateful for all types of support:

  • Financial Gifts & Supplies: Your monetary gift, or a donation of food and supplies, goes directly toward the essential operational needs of the rescue, including veterinary care and daily shelter maintenance.
  • Volunteer Your Time & Skills: Help on-site in San Felipe (walks, socialization) or remotely from home (marketing, coordination, administration).
  • Adopt or Foster: Open your home to a rescue dog, providing them with a temporary or permanent loving environment.
